I mean, we have been using these kuzama chini ya bafu from a long time, and I mean a really long time. In ancient times, lots of folks just dug a pit in the earth and used it as a latrine. Those holes were referred to as latrines. You just got down to business, in the simplest way. That was way back in the dark ages known as medieval times, when people had chamber pots instead of toilets inside their houses. Then they would pour these pots onto the streets after using them. This was not very clean! Toilets inside houses did not become common and more pleasant to use until the 1800. It also kept everyone more healthy and they were glad to have indoor plumbing.
